MiGC13: Welcome Address by PGM President

MiGC13 Chairman Welcoming Message
21 March 2019

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh and Salam Sejahtera.

It gives great pleasure for Genetics Society of Malaysia to host the 13th Malaysia International Genetics Congress (MiGC13) on 19-21th November 2019 in Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia. The theme of this year congress is `Exploring Innovation in Genetics’. The Society is indeed very honoured to organise this Congress with the full cooperation and support of Malaysia Genome Institute (MGI) under the National Institute of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM), and other key co-organisers, and significant contributions by collaborators, sponsors and exhibitors, both from public and private sectors.

The Society strives to organise various activities towards fulfilling its primary objectives, namely to develop and promote scientific knowledge on genetics, to create public awareness on its importance and advancements, and to foster a strong relationship and understanding between scientists in genetics and other fields.

The First National Congress on Genetics was held over 25 years ago in 1994. This Congress will be the 13th edition of such Congress on Genetics. Boosted by successes of the previous Congresses, the Society will make every effort, and will push on with a bigger and wider role to internationalise its scientific activities. We hope you, members and non-members alike, will help us make the Congress as a major biennial scientific activity for the Society.

In conjunction with MiGC13, the Society will be greatly honoured and proud to announce the fourth recipient of the coveted Zakri Award. This award honours an individual who exemplifies excellence and professional achievements for the development of genetics and allied disciplines in the country.

We have a hallmark legacy of delivering the Mendel Lecture in the Congress. In this legacy, the 13th Mendel Lecture will be delivered by an eminent scientist on a new frontier of science in genetics.

The Society is considerably honoured to be host to great minds in the diverse fields of genetics to share their expertise and experience in their respective fields. And we welcome and look forward to a bigger international participation in this Congress.

The Organising Committee under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chan Soon Choy (Perdana University) and Dr. Norwati Mohammad (FRIM) is working hard, and welcomes any ideas, efforts and contributions to ensure the great success of the Congress.
